Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers with the Academy of Medical Sciences – open for applications

We are happy to announce that the next round of our Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers with the Academy of Medical Sciences is now open.

Clinical researchers play a vital role in ensuring everyone can age well yet clinical research in the UK is declining. A key aim of the Vivensa Foundation is to help build a strong ageing research workforce and the Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers are one of our number of schemes open to healthcare professionals that support capacity building in clinical research.

For this scheme, applications are invited from Clinical Lecturers who are establishing their independent research careers. Applicants can apply for up to £40,000 to support directly incurred research costs, including consumables, equipment, and other essential project expenses.

To be eligible for funding from the Vivensa Foundation, proposed projects must be ageing-related and align with the priorities outlined in our 2025 – 30 Strategic Framework. Several other co-funders are also involved in this scheme, including other members of the UK Ageing Research Funders’ Forum: Arthritis UK, Diabetes UK and Medical Research Council.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on 1 September 2026, with applicants being notified of decisions in late February 2027. For more information and details on how to apply, please visit our “Apply for funding” page.
